Teagan Brien

Assistant Director
Donnybrook Centre

Teagan joined the Wallaby team in 2023 as a foundation member of the Donnybrook leadership team, having an integral role in supporting the opening of our Donnybrook service.

Teagan has a passion for lifelong learning completing the Certificate III and Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care and currently undertaking her Postgraduate Diploma of Early Childhood Teaching. Teagan’s career has seen her predominantly work with nursery aged children (6 weeks – 15 months) as well as have a wealth of experience with all other age groups.

Tegan believes relationships are the foundations for learning. She believes that building and maintaining trusting, reciprocal, and respectful relationships in early childhood helps children to connect with others, to build positive relationships with others and to support self-regulation of their emotions. Teagan advocates that for relationships to be meaningful, interactions need to be warm, caring, and responsive. Once connections are made with children, they are more likely to feel a sense of security, wellbeing and belonging.

Teagan uses her philosophy to work with educators too, building relationships with her team as the foundation for a healthy workplace.

Early childhood theorists who guide Teagan’s practices are Albert Bandura (learning through relationships), Abraham Maslow (hierarchy of needs) and Erik Erikson (the search for identity).

Teagan relocated to Melbourne from Brisbane in late 2022, with her two small dogs. In her spare time Teagan loves exploring Melbourne with her partner and trying out all the coffee and gelato there is on offer in Melbourne!
